"tantrum ego" - daniel prendiville
The debut CD from Daniel Prendiville, one of Ireland's most self-effacing songwriters, contains 10 tracks of various musical genres, from classic pop to, well, classic nonsense.
Working all by himself, Daniel spent the Winter/Spring of 1998/99 (if you catch my drift) holed up in a darkened room, struggling to bring this musical selection to completion. He was three months in there before he realised that he needed a new lightbulb. Unfriendly synthesisers and unwieldy guitars conspired to prevent him from completing the album. But did he quit? No sir, well at least, not until he had finished the CD.
After his long months of confinement and self-denial ("Am I still in there?" "No..."), Daniel reckons he has finally produced an album of which he can be truly proud. "I love all the tracks on "tantrum ego", even the snotty-nosed, retarded ones", opines Daniel, wiping a sentimental tear from his eye (he has two eyes, by the way, though he usually manages to confine his tears to one eye at a time - more economical that way, apparently). "Some of the tracks gave me more trouble that others, but usually a clip across the ears and a boot up the arse sorted them out. Others were threatened with community service. They all bent to my will eventually. They always do."
Each copy of "tantrum ego" is lovingly handcrafted on computer and is unique in its own way (come to think of it, can something be unique in any way other than its own?). No two copies of the CD are exactly alike, although some copies have become quite clever at masquerading themselves as other copies. It is difficult to tell the CDs apart with the naked eye, although a fully-clothed eye would have no problem at all in discerning the minute, yet significant, differences between the CDs.
"tantrum ego" is designed to give hours of listening pleasure to people who like that sort of thing. It has been mixed specially to appeal to people who love constructing model aeroplanes, playing with their kidney stones and random acts of violence. If you're that type of person, well...
