" hubbub"- avant gardai

After a gestation period approaching in length that of an African elephant, hubbub, the debut album from avant gardai, has finally been delivered to its exhausted and relieved "parents".

Dessie, the mainman behind avant gardai, feels that the wait has been well worth it...

"What we have hear is the essence of our art", he says. "This epitomises everything we've been trying to do, every point we've been trying to make over the last few years. We have tracks which can be considered borderline music, we have field recordings, we have sampling and we have out-and-out noise. This is avant gardai at the zenith of our powers, for the moment."

Dessie remains tight-lipped about the process of recording the album, other than to describe it as "challenging...painstaking...one of the toughest things we've ever done."

It also lead to one notable casualty, as a key member of the group, Bren, left at an early stage in the recording.

"I'm afraid Bren wanted to be a drummer and we couldn't use a drummer for the album. We tried to get him involved in searching for drum loops and stuff, but he just wasn't interested. So he left. Good luck to him."

Dessie, and remaining member John, now plan to promote the album extensively.

"The options for promoting an album like hubbub in Ireland are very limited, but the internet provides us with many opportunities to have the material aired internationally. The world-wide potential audience for our type of material, while small, is significant in size. We welcome the prospect of getting out there and spreading the word about our art to an appreciative audience."

Judge for yourself...
